Paragliding in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur: A Flyer's Paradise

Paragliding above stunning landscapes

The Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in southern France offers paragliding enthusiasts a unique blend of stunning landscapes, favorable weather conditions, and a variety of launch sites. From the rugged peaks of the Alps to the gentle slopes of the Luberon, there's are many possibilities from small to big XC paragliding flights.

The last years many record-breaking FAI Triangles have been flown in this area.

Key Paragliding Spots in the Region

  • Laragne-Monteglin/Chabre: Laragne-Monteglin with the Chabre mountain is a popular destination for cross-country flights. Chabre offers a challenging flying experience for XC pilots. The higher altitudes and thermal conditions make this area a favorite among experienced pilots and the famous Ozone Chabre Open.  On a classic Chabre day, with a southerly wind, we have many possibilities for very long and scenic XC flights.
  • Sederon: region offers many great launch sites for long XC flights. We often fly there when the wind has a northerly component. From Sederon, we can easily connect to the Chabre or Jabron valley. This opens up possibilities for flights of 100k or more.
    • Northwest wind: Buc is a good option, accessible by 4x4 or a scenic hike. It's also a great place for afternoon soaring.
    • North wind: Bergies is a better choice.
  • Mison: is an interesting spot which can be used in the evening as a soaring slope in a westerly wind . At the end of the day the breeze flowing in the Méouge valley reverses, causing a inversion of the wind.
  • Lac Serre de Ponçon: This large artificial lake is a popular spot for water-based activities, including paragliding. You can take off from Saint Vincent-les-Forts or Saint Jean Montclair. From here you connect directly on the Dormillouse mountainside and enjoy stunning views of the lake and the surrounding mountains with possible flight to Saint-André-les -Alpes and back or nice triangles using the lower mountains in the front.
  • Oraisson: Situated in the Luberon region, Oraisson offers a relaxed flying experience. This take-off is often used for local thermal-soaring flights. However we experienced it can also be used as a good starting point for XC flights towards Digne-les-Bains or Moustiers (Lac de Sainte Croix)
